One of the things Jesse has noticed in the last couple of years is that apparently everybody in England who works in the entertainment industry knows each other. Even more than in the States, in England they are all just connected somehow, which is actually as scary as it is amazing.
So it’s not a surprise, really, when One Direction shows up at the Spider-Man premiere in New York, the five of them invited by Andrew.
(Not that Jesse has any idea these boys are One Direction, or even what One Direction is. He just knows they are British and friends with Andrew and they have that way of behaving, of holding themselves like they’ve been in the spotlight for some time)
Andrew smiles very big as he introduces Jesse to them, taking up space in the carpet and wasting time. Jesse tries to learn their names and also tries not to blush when Andrew says “And this is my, um, my — Jesse, this is Jesse.”
The one with the curls grins cheekily at him, going “Hello, his Jesse,” to which Jesse does blush and mutters something. The one with the messy brown hair -Louis, Jesse remembers- elbows Curly —Harry, yes, that’s it— gently in the ribs though, telling him not to be mean.
Harry pouts, but Louis just laughs and pinches his cheek, and the way they look at each other is so adoringly that Jesse wonders.
But Andrew touches the back of his hand then, smiles at him all bright and easy and open, and Jesse sort of forgets everything else.
what if those “you’ve just won a giftcard/laptop/big money” things were actually real instead of scams and for years we’ve just been denying free gifts and somewhere in the world someone is like crying behind their computer screen whispering why won’t you just let me do nice things
um, basically you’re perfect
